It can be nothing else but crucially important to keep your Hotmail account clean and protected against spam, unless you wish to be unavailable to find valuable pieces of information in your own inbox. The Hotmail protection against junk mails allows you to ensure a higher security and “cleanliness” of your account. On these four pages that are dedicated to this issue (have a look at the screenshot), you are able to block certain email addresses (so you will not receive spam from them), designate certain addresses or mailing lists as safe ones (i.e. their emails will not be allocated to the trash folder), and change certain settings that may enhance your account’s protection against spam.
On these four selected pages, you are able to increase the Hotmail protection against junk email letters
Step 1. In your browser’s address line, type the following link in: http://msn.com/. Then, hit the “Enter” button.
Step 2. Find the button of Outlook.com at the top and give it a click.
Step 3. On this page, sign in to your Hotmail account. You can use this guide, if you have faced any problems with this matter.
Step 4. Find the button of “Settings” in a form of a cogwheel, located in the right-upper corner. Click on the button.
Step 5. In the menu, click on “Options.”
Step 6. On the left side, there will be a menu of options. Go to Mail > Junk email. Beneath it, there are four various pages, and we will make use of each of them. So, go to “Blocked senders” first.
Step 7. On this page, you are able to add the emails of people who bother you or keep sending you spam over and over, but your filter does not block it. So, in order to use this feature, type the email address in the first line and click on the “+” (Add) button. Do so with all the email addresses that bother you. After you are done with it, click on the “Save” button.
Step 8. Go to Junk email > Safe mailing lists. On the current page, you are able to add email addresses from which you receive letters as safe ones. This means that you will see the letters sent from those emails in the trash folder, and this is especially important for mailing lists. Mailing lists mean that a certain letter was sent not only to you, but to other people too. It can be advertising, promotion, updates about certain services, or other things. So, do the same: enter the email address, click on “+”, and then save the settings.
Step 9. Go to Junk email > Safe senders. If you noticed an email letter sent from a credible email address in a trash folder, you can add that email address into the “Safe senders” list. Emails from these addresses will never be automatically moved to a trash folder. Do not forget to click on the “Save” button.
Step 10. Go to Junk email > Filters and reporting. Here, you are able to change certain settings regarding the Hotmail protection against spam. First of all, the first setting allows you to make the filter of letters stronger. If you wish to do so, select the “Exclusive” one. The second setting, called “Report unwanted email”, allows you not to share the information about the letters you wish not to see. If you want to enable it, select “Don’t tell senders..” The third feature enables you to have the attachments, pictures, and links blocked in the emails of all senders who are not in the “Safe senders” list.
Step 11. Once you are done, click on the “Save” button.
